A serving officer's family in Westridge came to us early in the year, looking for a match for their son — a captain, a few years into his service, with the kind of family background and regimental standing that, in the cantonment's unwritten rules, narrows the field of suitable matches considerably. We had identified two strong possibilities and were three weeks into arranging the first introduction when the family called with news: a posting order had come through. Lahore. Effective within the month.
Most rishta processes — run through relatives, community contacts, or word of mouth — depend entirely on physical proximity and an established local network. A sudden move to another city usually means starting over: new contacts, new introductions, months lost rebuilding a search from scratch. For a military family on a fixed posting timeline, that delay is not a minor inconvenience. It can mean missing a window entirely.
The search did not pause. One of the two original introductions was based in Rawalpindi and proceeded as planned over video call before the move.
